The FISU is the supporting organi-zation of the biannual Universiades. With its headquarters in Brussels, the FISU was founded in 1949. FISU stands for Federation Interna-tionale du Sport Universitaire (In-ternational University Sports Feder-ation).

    FISU's main responsibility is the supervision of both Summer and Winter Universiades as well as the World University Championships. The FISU was formed within uni-versity institutions in order to pro-mote sporting values and encourage sporting practice in harmony with, and complementary to, the universi-ty spirit.

    George E. Killian from the Unit-ed States of America was elected as the president of FISU in 1999, and he was reelected in 2003.

    国际大体联是两年一度的大运会的领导机构。成立于1949年，其总部设在布鲁塞尔。FISU是国际大体联的缩写。

    国际大体联的主要职责是监督指导夏季大运会、冬季大运会和大学生体育锦标赛。其宗旨是：促进大学生体育整体水平的发展，促进大学生的道德及体育教育，促进世界各国大学生之间的紧密联系及合作，以便加强国际大学生体育运动的团结一致。

    Sports

    项目设置

    The Summer Universiade consists of 10 compulsory sports including athletics, basketball, fencing, foot-ball, gymnastics, swimming, diving, water polo, tennis, volleyball. Up to three optional sports can be chosen by the host country.

    The Winter Universiade consists of compulsory sports Alpine ski-ing,nordic skiing composed of jump,cross country & com-bined,ice hockey,short track,speed skating,figure skating,biathlon. One or two optional sports can be chosen by the host country.

    夏季运动会比赛的规定项目有田径、篮球、击剑、足球、体操、游泳、跳水、水球、网球和排球10种。根据举办国的要求还可以增选项目，最多为三项。

    冬季运动会比赛的规定项目有高山滑雪、跳台滑雪、越野滑雪、北欧两项、冰球、短道速滑、速度滑冰、花样滑冰和冬季两项。根据举办国的要求还可以增选1或2个项目。（张舜编译）
